Let us Get/Plan the Referendum Right [A Response to Maazi Okenwa]

Maazi Okenwa (Dr.), thanks for the challenge and prodding to visit the Lower Niger Congress web site. I welcome you and other members of Lower Niger

Congress to the dispassionate conclusion after the analysis of more than 100 years marriage, from 1914 to the present, that Nigeria is unworkable as presently constituted and that the only solution is that each ethnic nationality through a referendum be allowed to choose its path forward.

Allow me to refer you and members of Lower Niger Congress to the map from the link http://lowernigercongress.org/lower-niger-map/. Note, the authors of that map although well-meaning seem to have fallen into the same trap that formerly divided Nigeria into Hausa/Fulani, Igbo and Yoruba areas of control even as other ethnic nationalities were rendered inconsequential. The map did not but MUST show ALL the ethnic nationalities (no matter how large or small) that occupy that region or the foundation of this movement will be rendered faulty. Either a map showing ALL the ethnic nationalities in the area of interest is used or a map of the area without ANY ethnic nationality shown be used. It is of import that NO ethnic nationality be marginalized or the whole exercise will be futile.

The premise under which any coalition of the willing is designed must be based on EQUITY, non-INTERFERENCE and the understanding that each ethnic nationality no matter how small:

 must control 100% of its political space;

 must control 100% of its boundaries;

 must control 100% of its resources;

 must rule itself;

 must grow at its own pace; and,

 must govern itself.

The above is the ONLY path that will bring about the PEACEFUL unraveling and winding down of the ‘British Birthed Abomination’ and failed state Nigeria. Do not be surprised if more ethnic nationalities decide to throw in their lot with this movement if the drive for fairness is the watchword of the movement.

Now compare the map with the supposedly listing of some of the ethnic nationalities below that make up the so-called Lower Niger Congress, and a marked improvement is seen.

“Some of the ethnic nations covering the Lower Niger Congress include and not limited to the Ibibio, Anang, Ikwere, Igbo, Efik, Ijaw, Ogoni, Itsekiri, Edo nations, Isoko …” is definitely not enough due to the gravity of what is being proposed. If we are about to ask an individual to stake his or her life for a cause, the least we can do is to at least mention his/her name. I bet that a visitor to the website will first search for their ethnic nationality since that will positively or negatively affect their first impression.

Either provide a map showing all the ethnic nationalities or better yet use a listing of every ethnic nationality in the area of interest.

This then brings us to the salient point – each ethnic nationality must speak for itself!

The Lower Niger Congress and other interested organizations should contact and encourage members of each ethnic nationality and organizations to step up to the plate and educate their peoples about the choices.
