Lai Mohammed, why has INEC not uploaded entire presidential election result 5 weeks after?
An influential citizen, who spoke on condition of anonymity, has raised a troubling question “Why has INEC not uploaded the entire presidential election result more than 5 weeks after the election?”
The citizen made the remarks following a report by News Band entitled “INEC deliberately delayed uploading presidential election results on IReV — Lai Mohammed“, published Wednesday Morning.
In the report, the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, was quoted as saying that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) intentionally delayed the uploading of results of the recently-held 2023 presidential election to its INEC Result Viewing (IReV) portal.
Alhaji Mohammed claimed that the decision followed suspected cyber-attacks on IReV during the presidential poll.
Mohammed made the claim while speaking with some international media organisations in Washington DC on Monday, saying the electoral body withheld the upload to preserve the integrity of the data.
He said: “Under our laws today, management of election results is manual and the court has ruled that INEC has the exclusive right to determine the mode of election, its collation and transmission.
“What happened on the 25th of February was that INEC observed that the results of the presidential elections were not being viewed. INEC, suspecting a cyber-attack, withheld the uploading of the results to preserve the integrity of the data.
“It immediately proceeded to float an alternative platform while asking its technicians to investigate what happened to its original portal.”
Reacting to the claim, the citizen dropped the poser for Lai Mohammed and demanded an answer from the Minister to prove his sincerity.
According to him, the said election held since February 25 and the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Alhaji Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has been declared president-elect since March 1.
“If INEC is sincere and honest in their dealings with Nigerians, why are they yet to upload the remaining results on IReV?” he asked Lai Mohammed.
When News Band checked the IReV on Wednesday morning, only 94.68 per cent of the entire results have been uploaded more than five weeks after the presidential election of February 25.
IReV showed that out of the 176,846 polling units, only 167,443 results have been submitted. Read more.
