Fresh revelations have emerged in the ongoing efforts by some groups to recall the Senator representing Kogi Central at the national assembly, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, as the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has clarified that they are not recognized as a legally registered entity.
The groups, which claim to be acting on behalf of Natasha’s constituents, recently submitted a petition with six bags containing signatures to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in a bid to commence the recall process of the senator.
Moreover, in response to an inquiry about the organization’s registration status, CAC clarified that the commission does not register political bodies or pressure groups.
A letter from the CAC, stated, “We refer to your letter dated March 20, 2025, requesting the registration status of Kogi Central Political Frontier. Kindly be informed that the exact name, Kogi Central Political Frontier, is not available on record as a registered entity with the Commission. Furthermore, be guided that the Commission does not register political bodies or pressure groups.”
However, questions have arisen regarding how an unregistered group with no official address could initiate the recall process.
Meanwhile, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan has denied receiving any formal notification of the petition from INEC. When contacted for confirmation, she responded, “I haven’t been served. Guess publishing it on their social media handles suffices? I will ask my lawyers. It’s all crazy.”
Earlier reports indicated that INEC initially rejected the petition due to a lack of verifiable contact details.
However, the commission later accepted it after the petitioners provided the required information.
