Kenneth Okonkwo clears air on Constitution’s stand on 25% in FCT
Nollywood actor and legal practioner,. Barrister Kenneth Okonkwo has cleared air on the position of the Nigerian Constitution on the real interpretation of the law respecting the raging issue of “25% votes in the Federal Capital Territory” (FCT), Abuja.
Following the presidential election on February 25, 2023, Nigerians have been inundated with various back-and-forth positions of the law over what truly constitutes “25% votes in the Federal Capital Territory” referred to in the Constitution.
Arise Television had invited the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign council spokesman and Minister of State, Labour and Employment, Mr. Festus Keyamo, SAN, and Kenneth Okonkwo but he apparently shied away from the encounter.
Speaking, Barrister Okonkwo argued the constitution said that the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is the “Governor” of the Federal Capital Territory.
Hence, just like other states, he is mandated to earn 25% of votes cast in the FCT.
