JUST IN: Security operatives nab suspects who battered NLC chairman
National Security Adviser, Mr Nuhu Ribadu says Security operatives have arrested suspects who battered the chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Joe Ajaero in Imo State.
Ribadu who also apologized to organized labour over the unfortunate attack disclosed the arrest of the suspects in a statement on Wednesday.
Recall that Ajaero was brutally beaten and held hostage for hours after storming Owerri to lead a demonstration.
Following the attack, the labour movement issued an ultimatum to the government to meet certain objectives, including the arrest of those responsible for the Ajaero attack, threatening a nationwide strike action if the demands were not met.
The Federal Government had gone to court to stop the strike, but it began on Monday, crippling activities across the nation.
In a statement signed by the Head of Strategic Communications in the Office of the National Security Adviser, Zakari U Mijinyawa, on Wednesday, Ribadu urged the movement to revise its decisions on the ongoing strike, adding that attackers of Ajaero have been arrested and investigations had commenced.
Ribadu said the federal government regrets the incident that happened in Imo and condemns it in its entirety, noting that it was against the rule of law and the principles of freedom of association and expression subscribed to by President Tinubu and his administration.
