JUST IN: Police recover cache of weapons from ex-Ibadan NURTW Chairman’s house

There is palpable tension in Oyo State as Police reportedly recovered weapons from the apartment of the sacked former Chairman Park Management System (PMS), Mukaila Lamidi, popularly known as Auxiliary, in Ibadan.
In the latest development, the Oyo State Police Command once again stormed Lamidi’s Ibadan residence and recovered a cache of weapons and ammunition.
According to reports, Auxiliary, who was former chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), escaped, however, while some of his loyalists were arrested by the police.
Presently, security has been reinforced to the Metropolis of Ibadan.

It could be recalled that the Police had, sometime ago, parade the former transport union leader for illegal gun possession.
Parading Auxiliary, at the Force Headquarters in Lagos, the then Police Commissioner, Umar Manko, while briefing journalists, said that operatives attached to the Special Anti- Robbery Squad (SARS) arrested Mr. Lamidi at the Olodo area of Ibadan on May 10, following confession by an illegal arms dealer, Abdulazeez Amao, who was arrested with arms hidden in bags of flour.
Mr. Manko said investigations revealed that Mr. Lamidi bought one AK-47 rifle and one English pistol from Mr. Amao.

“Sequel to the arrest of a notorious arms dealer, Abdulazeez Amao, who smuggled AK-rifles from Mali and Burkina Faso to Nigeria on March 10th, 2014 and the recovery of ten AK 47 rifles, Abdulazeez Amao confessed that one Alhaji Mukaila Lamidi popularly known as Auxiliary, the immediate past chairman of the Oyo State chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers bought one AK-47 rifle and one English pistol from him,” Mr. Manko said.
