JUST IN: Court upholds Ganduje’s suspension as APC national chairman

The political crisis in Kano State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has taken a very disturbing dimension as Kano State High Court has granted an ex parte order restraining Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, the national chairman of the party from parading himself as a member of the party.
The court presided over by Justic Usman Malam Na’abba ordered that henceforth, Ganduje should desist from presiding over all affairs of the National Working Committee of the APC.
Justice Usman Malam granted the order following an exparte motion lodged by two executive members of the APC from the Ganduje ward, Laminu Sani and Haladu Gwanjo.
The motion, filed on behalf of the ward, sought the suspension of the APC chairman, alleging misconduct and breaches of party regulations.
Justice Na’abba stressed the need for maintaining the status quo, instructing all parties involved to uphold the suspension pending the substantive suit scheduled for April 30, 2024.
He ruled, “An order is hereby granted directing all parties… to maintain status quo ante belum… restraining [Ganduje] from parading himself as a member of APC or presiding over any affairs of the NWC.”
NewsBand reported that Mr Ganduje was suspended by members of his ward, the Ganduje Ward in the Dawakin Tofa local government area of Kano State over corruption allegations.
The suspension was announced by Halliru Gwanzo, legal adviser of the ward while addressing newsmen in Kano on Monday.
Gwanzo said that Ganduje has to clear his name of corruption allegations regarding his long-standing dollar case.

Recall that Daily Nigerian, a digital media had captured Ganduje in a video allegedly receiving bundles of dollar notes as a bribe from a man said to be a contractor and stuffing them in the pockets of his gown.
Though, Mr Ganduje had denied the content of the video when it first surfaced online and maintained his innocence.
But the current administration of governor Abba Yusuf revisited the case, vowing to prosecute the ex-governor.
The Kano High Court would arraign Ganduje on Wednesday, April 17, 2024 on charges bordering on allegations of bribery, diversion, and misappropriation of funds, including the purported acceptance of $413,000 and N1.38bn in bribes.
The Kano State Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Haruna Dederi, had said Ganduje would be arraigned alongside his wife and six others.
The Yusuf administration, which initiated the criminal suit against the eight respondents, had declared its readiness to present 15 witnesses to testify before Justice Usman Na’aba of State High Court.
