A middle-aged protester carrying dynamite got killed in Port-Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State on Tuesday morning while trying to discharge an explosive.
The victim was suspected to be a supporter of Barrister Nysom Wike, a former governor of the State and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Governor Siminilayi Fubara and his predecessor, Wike have been having a serious battle over who controls the state’s politics.
The unfortunate incident happened in front of Hotel Presidential at about 9.45am on Tuesday.
The corpse of the victim, this medium gathered, was immediately evacuated as security operatives arrived at the location where the explosion happened.
Though, this is coming as top political leaders from the different wards of Obio/Akpor showed their solidarity for the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike in a protest march.
At the time of filing this report, the protesters were at the Rumueme Civic Center in Port Harcourt, and the likes of Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Ogundu Chinda, Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, and former Council Chairman, George Ariolu were leading the march.
They are demanding that the Inspector General of Police, continues to occupy the councils and not succumb to any form of intimidation.
The solidarity march is taking place along Ikwerre Road, as the crowd was said to be causing a gridlock on the road.
