Abuja, Nigeria — March 24- The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has rescheduled its 2025 Mock Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) to Thursday, April 10, moving it from its initial April 5 date. JAMB disclosed this adjustment in its weekly bulletin Monday, emphasizing the shift aims to refine logistics and integrate new innovations. These upgrades, officials say, will modernize the test and align it with international standards.

Meanwhile, the board confirmed the main UTME will proceed as planned on April 25. According to the bulletin, the mock exam’s postponement allows extra time to finalize technical upgrades and expand participation capacity. JAMB also announced an increase in accredited centers nationwide to reduce overcrowding and ensure smoother operations. “This decision reflects our commitment to excellence,” the statement read, underscoring efforts to optimize the exam’s reliability.

Furthermore, the board linked the changes to recent research on global assessment trends. By adopting advanced methodologies, JAMB aims to elevate candidates’ experiences and minimize logistical hurdles. Authorities urged registered participants to monitor updates for their Mock Notification Slips, which detail individual exam venues and schedules.

In response to growing candidate numbers, JAMB has partnered with tech firms to upgrade biometric systems and server infrastructure. These measures, officials argue, will curb malpractice and reduce technical disruptions during testing. The mock exam serves as a trial run for the main UTME, helping candidates familiarize themselves with the Computer-Based Test (CBT) format.

The board also reassured stakeholders that feedback from the mock exercise will inform final adjustments ahead of April’s high-stakes exams. “We prioritize fairness and precision,” JAMB’s spokesperson added, urging schools and parents to support candidates during preparations.

Candidates expressed mixed reactions, with some applauding the extended preparation window and others citing scheduling conflicts. JAMB advised affected individuals to contact its support desks for guidance.

As Nigeria’s sole tertiary entrance exam body, JAMB manages over 1.8 million annual candidates. The 2025 adjustments mark its latest effort to modernize Africa’s largest standardized testing system.
