At least two security operatives were killed and an unspecified number wounded when Islamic State of the West African Province (ISWAP) fighters attacked a military formation near Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, Dailytrust reports.

This came less than 24 hours after the Multinational Joint Task Force confirmed that it killed more than 100 fighters including 10 top commanders of ISWAP at the Lake Chad Basin Region.

It was gathered that the gun battle began at exactly 6pm which caused hundreds of civilians to flee their homes in Molai General area in Maiduguri.

It was gathered that a large number of the terrorist group in assorted vehicles and motorcycles, armed with sophisticated weapons invaded the security checkpoints manned by joint task force Operation Hadin Kai comprising of military and mobile policemen.

Top security said at least two security operatives were killed and many were wounded as the Air Component of Operations Hadin Kai supported the ground to repell the attacks.

“They were shooting and firing RPGs in the area in the attack which forced many residents of Lawanti Kura, Mamanti, and Molai general area to flee their homes to a safe place in the town.

“After a fierce battle, we lost two operatives; one soldier and a mobile policeman were killed during the attacks, and some personnel wounded,” a top security source said.

Another security source claimed that some military hardware, including a gun truck and a military ambulance were carted away by the attackers.
