As tempo of attacks on and killings of Christians and burning down of their places of worship in parts of Nigeria, especially Northern Nigeria continues to rise on a daily basis, without any visible consequences on the part of the perpetrators, Christians have been charged to defend themselves, at least to repel such sport of unwarranted aggressions.

The advice was given by the General Overseer of the Rhema Deliverance Ministries, Bishop Arthur Nwachukwu during a special thanksgiving service to mark his 75th birthday anniversary at the church international headquarters, Umunya, Oyi council of Anambra state yesterday.

The nation’s Christian population had continued to accuse President Mohammed Buhari’s administration of a grand plot to islamise Nigeria through the instrumentality of the unabated series of invasions and killings of peaceful Christian citizens by heavily armed and motivated Fulani herdsmen who regularly and repeatedly go on such wanton killing spree unhindered and unchallenged by security agencies.

While impressing on the Federal and state governments as well as the security agencies to rise to the occasion in Defence and protection of citizens, Bishop Nwachukwu saw the development as sad and unfortunate, hence, must be challenged for it to stop.

Acknowledging that if he says the truth, like other Christian clerics who confronted the reality, they would come after him, but that he would not be intimidated to say it.

According to him, “…he can come all the way from his office in Abuja to pick me.

“The man wants to islamise Nigeria, but you should be a Christian. Don’t run away. Defend yourself as Christians”.

He attested to the grace and favour of God upon him and his family in the last 75 years especially since he “totally surrendered to God.

“There have been several efforts in the past, including using charms against me, but God has been faithful.

“No native doctor can do me anything. I am a spirit. That born of a spirit is a spirit.”

The Anambra state Governor Willie Obiano acknowledged his high regard and respect for the servant of God and the great works the Almighty has been doing through him.

Obiano who was represented by the state’s Head of Service, challenged other men of God and elites in the State to emulate Bishop Nwachukwu in the manner he has brought up his children to take after him in the service of God.

The immediate past governor of Anambra State Mr. Peter Obi, who attended the occasion extolled the virtues of Bishop Nwachukwu who he described as an accomplished servant of God who has brought up his children in the way of the Lord.

“We are celebrating God’s glory. Your own children are telling your story. You can’t have it better.

“The grace and blessings of God are on the Nwachukwus. You should pray for our State and the country”, Obi urged the celebrant.

All the Bishop’s sons- Chukwudozie,Anene, Ejike except Amechi who is an Awka-based orthopedic medical practitioner, are pastors.

The well-attended occasion was graced by the traditional ruler of Umunya, Igwe Chris Onyekwuluje; former Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly Chinwe Nwaebili; Commissioner for Transport; Bishop Nwachukwu’s younger brother, and the presiding Bishop of the Grace of God Mission International-Pastor Paul Nwachukwu among other prominent individuals from parts of the country.
