Five Igbo Socio-cultural organisations and Pressure groups have now waded into the ongoing rage and mass protest throughout the South East and South South by the MASSOB, IPOB and Radio Biafra activists over the detention of Nnamdi Kanu, the Director of Radio Biafra.

The groups are Igbo Elders Forum  led by Chief Dick Chukwubuikem, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council led by Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, the Igbo Mandate Union led by Prophet Obinna Akukwe, the Igbo Information Network/World Igbo leadership, Education and cultural Council led by Comrade Chuks Ibegbu, and Ebubeagu Ndigbo led by Bar Emejulu Okpalaukwu

The groups called for calm and understanding by all parties to the crisis and appealed to the federal government to see the situation as another challenge in the process of nation building. The groups advised security agents not to use any force to handle the situation as long as the protesters are not armed or violent.

The groups have started reaching out to all parties and stakeholders to ensure that the situation did not get out of hand. They warned miscreants not to cash in on the protest to loot public property or cause any mayhem.

The groups also called on the federal government to take necessary step to address the colossal problems in the South East such as bad roads, unemployment and structural imbalance.
