A ministerial nominee from Imo state, Prof. Gozie ‎Anwukah on Wednesday confirmed to Senators that he is an in-law to the Governor of Imo state, Rochas Okorocha [image above] adding that his nomination was on his personal merit.

It could be recalled that Senate on Tuesday received 10 petitions against nomination of Prof Anwuka as Minister by President Muhammadu Buhari which was submitted by Senator Nneji Achonu, Imo North.

The former Secretary to State Government told the ‎Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions he never mismanaged the resources of the University of Imo state when he was the Vice- Chancellor.

He however failed to present any document that backed-up reconstruction of his official residence fence which was about N800,000.

But, he explained to the committee that it was within the University extant rules for him to spend less than a N1 million without approval from the University governing Council.

On the purchase of 13-seaters bus, he claimed that as out-going Vice Chancellor, he was entitled to 406 Peugeot which was about N4.2 million but preferred 13 seaters bus which cost N3.2 million.

But, Anwuka also failed to present the document backing his request for 13-seaters bus.

The committee is expected to submit the report on the petition to Senate on Thursday.
