There was a slight drama in court on Friday when controversial crossdresser, Idris Okuneye, aka Bobrisky confessed being a man.
Bobrisky, who has for years identified as a woman, said in court during her sentencing on Friday, April 12, 2024, that she was “a man.”
This comes after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arrested her for naira mutilation last week.
The anti-graft agency also added two counts of money laundering but the court dismissed both money laundering charges.
When Justice Abimbola Awogboro asked Bobrisky about her gender in court, she said that she was “a man.”
“Are you a man or a woman?” Justice Awogboro asked in court. “I am a man,” Bobrisky responded.
The moment revealed the harsh realities of transwomen in the Nigerian judicial system.
The judge subsequently sent him to jail and ruled that the jail term commenced from March 24, 2024, the day of his arrest.
Recall that the court had on April 5, 2024, convicted Bobrisky after he pleaded guilty to the four counts charge of abusing the Naira currency preferred against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
