How soldiers stormed Adamawa police station, killed Inspector

News Band is in possession of a police signal which narrated how soldiers attacked a police station in Jimeta, Adamawa State and killed a Police Inspector in the process.

The signal tagged “Situation Report”, dated November 22, 2023, contained “Incident Report” showing details of the altercation that happened at the Adamawa State Command.

The incident report was signed by the Adamawa State Commissioner of Police, CP Afolabi Babatola, and addressed to the Police State Headquarters in Abuja.

According to CP Babatola, the trouble started when the police men attached to Jimeta Division were on routine stop and search and accosted the soldiers.

The soldiers, who could not tolerate what they considered as police nuisance, ordered the police men to vacate the road but met a stiff resistance.

In the ensuing fracas, one of the police men shot at the soldiers and hit one of them on the leg.

Hell was let loose the next day as, according to Babatola, the military mobilized twelve armoured trucks and attacked the State Headquarters, firing sporadic shots.

Eventually, one of the police officers on duty, one Inspector Jacob Daniel, was shot dead.

It took the intervention of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State before the soldiers retreated, after spilling blood.

The police signal entitled “Invasion of Police State Headquarters by the military, reads in full:

“Be informed that on 21/11/2023 at about 2100hrs there was an altercation between three soldiers on pass from Taraba State while police men attached to Jimeta Division were on routine stop and search at target junction via Yola North LGA.

“One of the soldiers pulled a jack knife and ordered the police men to vacate the road.

In the process, the soldiers attempted to disarm the police men as a result one of the police men fired a shot which eventually hit one of the soldiers on the leg.

“Immediately, he was rushed to Specialist Hospital Jimeta-Yola for medical attention all efforts to  reach both the Brigade Commander and the Garrison Commander of 23 Armoured Brigade proved abortive as phones rang out without response.

“The military mobilized twelve (12) armoured trucks and attacked the State Headquarters firing sporadically.

Police men at the headquarters gate prevented them from accessing the premises.

“It took the intervention of His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Adamawa State, Rt Hon Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, before they retreated.

“However, in the course of the incident, one Inspector Jacob Daniel attached to CID mine who was among the guards was shot dead and his rifle carted away by the military.

“Meanwhile, situation is currently under control.

“Further development will be communicated.
