Armed bandits ambushed travelers along the Anka-Mayanchi road in Zamfara State on Wednesday, leaving one person dead and two others injured. The attackers also abducted one passenger during the violent assault, sending shockwaves through the local community.
Eyewitnesses reported that the gunmen intercepted two golf vehicles between Bobo and Yashar Rogo villages before opening fire. Tragically, one passenger died instantly while two others sustained gunshot wounds.
The abducted victim was forcibly taken away as the assailants fled the scene.
Local volunteers quickly rushed to help, transporting the injured to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment. Community members also recovered the deceased victim’s body and conducted a swift burial in accordance with Islamic rites.
Security forces have launched search operations to track down the kidnappers and rescue the missing traveler. However, no arrests have been made yet, leaving residents anxious about further attacks.
This particular road has grown increasingly dangerous, with frequent bandit attacks terrorizing travelers in recent months. Criminals hiding in nearby forests often target vehicles, making the route a hotspot for violence.
Despite the rising insecurity, authorities have not yet issued an official statement on the latest incident. Frustrated locals are pleading for stronger security presence to protect them from relentless attacks.
The tragedy highlights the worsening security crisis in Zamfara, where armed groups continue to operate with little resistance. Families of the victims now mourn their loss while others fear they could be next.
Until decisive action is taken, such attacks may persist, leaving more innocent lives at risk on Zamfara’s perilous roads.
