Gospel singer Aduke Gold dies at 35

The Nigerian gospel music industry is currently mourning the sudden death of Aduke Ajayi, aka Aduke Gold, who suddenly died on Monday, August 12, 2024 at the age of 34.

The news of her death was confirmed by fellow gospel artist Esther Igbekele in the wee hours of Tuesday via her official Instagram page.

Esther posted a tribute with Aduke Gold’s picture and the caption, “A general has fallen. RIP.”

She was said to have died at the University College Hospital, UCH, after battling an undisclosed illness.

Aduke Gold had made a significant impact in the gospel music industry with her soul-lifting songs.

Her breakthrough single, “Nitori Ogo” (translated as “Because of Glory”), gained viral praise on social media.

Born in Ilesha, Aduke Gold, who initially went by the name Aduke Penkele, grew up in the Ogba and Badagry areas of Lagos.

She was the 11th child in a polygamous family. She rose to fame with a live performance at the first remembrance event for the late gospel artist Baba Ara, and she officially started her music career in 2004.

In addition to her music career, Aduke Gold was also dedicated to education, particularly in early childhood development.

She held a degree in History and International Relations from Lagos State University and a second degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of Lagos.
