Gender advocacy: Lagos command reiterates commitment to end violence against women and girls ― NSCDC

Commandant Eweka receives the Director – in – charge of CEWHIN and their members, promises to dedicate a new office for the Gender Unit of the Command.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Lagos State Command, has today, Wednesday, 11th January, 2023, reiterated its unflinching commitment to end violence against women and girls in the state.

The above assertion was made by the State Commandant, NSCDC, Lagos State Command, Commandant of Corps (CC) Edenabu Eweka Okoro, in his office, during an advocacy visit, of the members, of the Centre for Women’s Health and Information (CEWHIN) led, by Mrs. Atinuke Odukoya (Director – in – charge).

The Centre for Women’s Health and Information (CEWHIN) led by Mrs. Atinuke Odukoya, while stating their mission of visit, requested for official permission, to train the Gender desk officers of the Unit, who are deployed to the Divisions, in the Local Government Areas ( LGAs ), asked the Commandant to build a befitting office dedicated to gender unit of the command to boost confidentiality, during interrogative sessions, just to mention a few, in a bid to eliminate all forms of violence against women and girls, aid gender equality and women’s empowerment in line with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The NSCDC, Lagos State Commandant, CC Edenabu Eweka Okoro, in his response, without any iota of doubt lauded the efforts of the Gender Unit, of the command led by Deputy Superintendent of Corps (DSC) Abimbola Idris Kuku, and members of CEWHIN, in the state and assured them of his commitment to continually, render his support, to ensure speedy investigation and prosecution of cases.

Having extolled, the very astute and strong commitment of the Commandant General (CG), NSCDC, CG Ahmed Abubakar Audi, PhD, mni, OFR, towards Gender advocacy, in the country and the total elimination of violence against women and girls amongst others, CC Edenabu Eweka Okoro further promised, to upscale the Unit’s unparalleled performance, in the new year by dedicating a brand-new office to it, within a short period of time.

Present at the advocacy visit includes Deputy Superintendent of Corps (DSC) Abimbola Idris Kuku, Head of Gender Unit, DSC Obigho Stephen, DSC Abolurin Oluwaseun Olumide, Public Relations Officer and Inspector Ifeoluwa Ogunlana, 2ic Gender Unit.
