A former female Presidential Candidate, Bishop Prof. Funmilayo Adesanya-Davies has congratulated President Ashiwaju Bola Tinubu, as he has taken on the leadership of Nigeria on 29th, May, 2023 as the 16th President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; making some observations and recommendations.

Funmilayo Adesanya-Davies URGENT RECOMMENDATION S TO PRESIDENT BOLA TINUBU WITHIN 10O DAYS IN OFFICE include:

  1. While Dangote Refineries commences, the President should create a federal ministry and appoint a specific Minister of Refineries and Projects with the aim to fix 6 new Refineries, four (4) in four (4) years especially.
  2. Presidential intervention is needed over Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s release, President Ashiwaju should please release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu either conditionally or unconditionally; while he ensures the return of Chief Sunday Igboho that is held in Benin Republic back home to Nigeria in sanity and safety.
  3. The President should commence the implementation of resolutions of 2014 National Conference/ Confab which is already overdue now, as he has promised to restructure Nigeria into True Federalism with Regionalization.
  4. He should reduce the law maker’s salaries, allowances and retirement benefits (In fact, their services are better than part-time jobs). He should ensure this by precept and example to be shown through his own salary and emoluments.
  5. President Ashiwaju Tinubu in his appointments without any form of lopsidedness should fully as promised remember to embrace the Women and the Youths as this point cannot be over emphasized.
  6. He should especially empower the Christian community who had clamored against Muslim/Muslim ticket and had been short-changed in the past eight years by Buhari-APC led administration.
  7. He should dare to start to face and ultimately complete every uncompleted project of the past administrations because government is a continuous process.

During the inauguration, while Tinubu assured that Nigeria will not break up or perish, groups like the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, have been agitating for Nigeria’s break up over the years.

Similarly, the Yoruba Nation movement has been pushing for Nigeria’s secession; while Nnamdi Kanu, IPOB leader is locked up by the Department of State Services, DSS, Sunday Igboho is held in Benin Republic. All these would have to be addressed.

Again, Presidential Bola Tinubu spoke during his inaugural at the Eagles Square on Monday in Abuja on “Fuel subsidy era”, which has turned most controversial with ripples effects, in his inauguration speech, the

Nigerian President Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has said that, “The era of fuel subsidy is gone” in Nigeria.

In his words: “We commend the decision of the outgoing administration in phasing out the petrol subsidy regime which has increasingly favoured the rich more than the poor. Subsidy can no longer justify its ever-increasing costs in the wake of drying resources. We shall instead re-channel the funds into better investment in public infrastructure, education, health care and jobs that will materially improve the lives of millions.”

The President also spoke on revamping Nigeria’s economy by ensuring budgetary reforms and promised to make electricity more accessible by encouraging various state governments to participate in power generation, while adding that his government will review various multiple taxations.

In the following day, on May 30, 2023, President Bola Tinubu clarifies position on fuel subsidy removal.

‘This was disclosed in a statement by his media center on its official Twitter handle on Tuesday, May 30, 2023. The statement reads,

“The public is advised to note that President Bola Tinubu’s declaration that “subsidy is gone” is neither a new development nor an action of his new administration. It was carried out by the outgoing administration.

“He was merely communicating the status quo, considering that the previous administration’s budget for fuel subsidy was planned and approved to last for only the first half of the year, June, 2023.

“Effectively, this means that by the end of June, the Federal Government will be without funds to continue the subsidy regime, translating to its termination.

“The panic-buying that has ensued as a result of the communication is needless; it however will not take immediate effect, until scheduled.

“Furthermore, President Tinubu was clear about his plans to re-channel the funds previously devoted to the payment of subsidies into better investments that will cushion the effects of the removal on the general public, especially the poor of the poor. This includes but is not limited to investments in public infrastructure, education, healthcare and jobs that will materially improve the lives of millions of Nigerians and increase their earning potential.”

Adesanya-Davies agrees this means that, “Fuel subsidy is already gone because it only reflects in the budget till June, by the end of June; the Federal Government will be without funds to continue the subsidy regime, unlike the outgoing administration, thus translating to its termination. Fuel subsidy era has already ended with Muhammadu Buhari’s administration and was only announced by the new President, so there is no need for any miss interpretation.
