Former NCC Executive vice-Chairman, Eugene Juwah, is dead

Former Executive vice-chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Eugene Juwah is dead.

His death was announced in a statement signed by Ikechukwu Adinde, the NCC spokesman.

According to the statement, Juwah died on Saturday in Canada. The cause of death was, however, not disclosed.

The statement reads, “We announce with sadness, the death of Dr Eugene Ikemefuna Juwah, the immediate past executive vice chairman/chief executive officer of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), which sad event occurred on Saturday, October 9, 2021 in Canada.

“Dr Juwah served as EVC/CEO of NCC from July 2010 to August 2015, during which period the NCC and the telecom industry witnessed steady growth that impacted positively on the social and economic development of the country.

“May God test his soul in peace and give his family the strength and fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

“Burial arrangements will be announced by the family.”

Juwah had a PhD from the University of Manchester, and an MSc from the Technical University of Veszprem.

Before his appointment as NCC vice-president, he worked with Shell BP Petroleum Company and the Leventis Group of Companies before being invited in 1993 to join the management of Mobile Telecommunications Services Limited, as director.

He also held senior management positions at Communication Investment Limited (CIL).

His death comes weeks after the death of Olabiyi Durojaiye, former chairman of the commission.
