The Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, affirmed President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to reviewing the minimum wage.

Speaking on Thursday in Umuahia, she addressed newsmen after meeting with labour leaders in Abia, emphasizing the president’s dedication.

Consequently, this review aims to address workers’ concerns and improve their living standards.

Furthermore, it demonstrates the administration’s dedication to ensuring fair compensation for all employees.

Onyejeocha stated that the current minimum wage will undergo review in less than two years, demonstrating the administration’s responsiveness.

She expressed that President Tinubu deeply cares about workers’ welfare and intends to fulfill every promise made to them.

“We refuse to permit indefinite delays in the minimum wage review,” she declared, emphasizing the newly established timeline.

Previously, the review period was five years, but now it will occur in three years, which is less than two years.

Onyejeocha noted that this commitment has been documented, reinforcing the government’s accountability to workers.

In July 2024, Tinubu approved a minimum wage of N70,000, promising to review it every three years.

As a representative from Abia, Onyejeocha met with labour leaders, whom she considers her constituents, to extend her well wishes.

She reminded them that labour plays a crucial role in ensuring stability and peace, both in workplaces and across the nation.

“I emphasized the need for a strike-free year, fostering a collaborative environment with the government for greater productivity,” she stated.

Mr. Ogbomna Okoro, Abia Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, commended the minister’s remarkable achievements and promised future collaboration.

Earlier, the minister led a roundtable discussion with the Abia State Council of Traditional Rulers, outlining essential Federal Government policies.
