FG should reverse unity school fees increments — CLO

Civil Liberties Organization (CLO), Anambra State Branch, has appealed to federal government to hearken to cries of students, parents and Nigerians over outrageous school fees increments in this economic predicament as a result of fuel subsidy removal, depreciation of our currency and hyperinflation.
It will be recalled that the Federal Government has insisted that tuition fees remain free and there are no increments in school fees.
To the consternation of parents, guardians and Nigerians when Unity Schools closed on Friday 4th August 2023 students returned with Newsletter bearing an increment from ₦39000 to ₦87000 excluding PTA fee of ₦15000.
In a press statement issued to newsmen tagged “Essence of government is for greater happiness of greatest number of citizens“, endorsed by Evangelist Comrade Vincent Ezekwueme and Comrade Chidi Mbah, Chairman and Secretary respectively in Anambra State, CLO appealed to FG to out of patriotism and love for students and education to reverse the decision to avert the danger of having more school dropouts as many parents cannot afford to pay such huge amount of money, thereby truncating academics career of many indigent students due to paucity of funds.
The government should subsidize education and make it a right of every citizen to Senior Secondary School 3 not a privilege.
It is correct to say that only through education and skills acquisition, fight ignorance, poverty, youths’ restiveness, terrorism and other vices in the society.
It is noteworthy that education is the best and greatest pathway to greatness and invaluable contributor to national growth and development.
We earnestly appeal to President Tinubu, Ministry of Education and National Assembly to listen to the plights, problems, predicament and sufferings of the citizens as increments of school fees will exacerbates the sufferings, pains, agony and hardships of the citizens.
