Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, has summoned the South African High Commissioner to Nigeria, Bobby Moroe, over the xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in South Africa.
The meeting, which held by 11am on Tuesday, has on the top burner the xenophobic attacks ravaging the African country.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyema, had on Monday vowed the Federal Government would take “definitive measures” following the xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in South Africa.
He described the attackers as mindless criminals, noting that the police intervention was ineffective.
On his verified Twitter handle, the Minister said: “Received sickening and depressing news of continued burning and looting of Nigerian shops and premises in #SouthAfrica by mindless criminals with ineffective police protection.
“Enough is enough. We will take definitive measures.”
Speculations that the alleged killer was a Nigerian sparked protests, looting and burning of foreign-owned businesses.
The police had struggled to bring the attacks under control.
In the meantime, the South African government has stated that no fewer than 90 persons have been arrested in connection with the xenophobic attacks on foreigners, especially Nigerians in South Africa.
In a statement issued by the South African Government Communication and Information System (GCIS), the government denounced the widespread violence and crime as a way of addressing grievances.
It said: “Government calls for calm and restraint in certain parts of Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal, as community members raise their concerns and grievances about various issues affecting them.
“No amount of grievance or unhappiness can justify the looting of shops, destruction of properties and illegal blocking of roads. Such acts constitute a criminal offence and the law enforcement agencies must respond without any fear or favour
“We are a democratic state that promotes robust dialogue and engagement with the dissatisfied communities.
“As government, we will not allow anarchy and violence to be the order of the day.

In another development on Monday, President Muhammadu Buhari has despatched a Special Envoy to South Africa over the lingering xenophobic attacks.
