FG boosts power supply in Ekiti State with new substations

Ado Ekiti witnessed a major infrastructure boost on May 12, 2025, as the Federal Government delivered critical equipment for two new power substations.

The Transmission Corporation of Nigeria received 15 truckloads of transformers, poles, and accessories at Omisanjana station.

Commissioner Bolaji Aluko confirmed the substations will be built in Ilupeju and Ijesa Isu, with a switching station at Ikere. These facilities will dramatically improve electricity supply across northern Ekiti and neighboring districts. Each location will house 60MVA transformers, adding 240MVA capacity to the state’s grid.

“This project transforms our power infrastructure,” Aluko declared while inspecting the delivery. He thanked Governor Oyebanji for fast-tracking the three-year initiative. The commissioner noted similar equipment arrived months earlier, but this shipment completes critical components.

The new stations will replicate Omisanjana’s design, reducing transmission losses across Ekiti. “Proximity to consumers means better power retention,” Aluko explained. He also praised the governor’s Independent Power Project, which supplements the national grid.

Once operational by December 2025, the substations will eliminate capacity constraints on Ekiti’s grid lines. Residents anticipate reliable electricity as workers begin immediate installation. This federal-state collaboration marks a turning point for Ekiti’s energy security and economic growth.

Authorities confirmed the upgraded infrastructure will attract investments while improving living standards. With steady power finally within reach, businesses and households across Ekiti are preparing for a brighter future. The project demonstrates effective intergovernmental cooperation in addressing critical infrastructure gaps.

As installation progresses, community leaders have pledged to protect the facilities from vandalism. The state government will monitor implementation closely, ensuring timely project completion. Ekiti’s power revolution has begun, promising to light up homes and energize industries statewide.
