Ex-VP Namadi Sambo Hospitalized in US for Knee Surgery

Nigeria’s former Vice President, Namadi Sambo [image above] has been hospitalized in the United States of America for knee surgery since vacating office along with his principal on May 29, 2015 and is recuperating in the after undergoing a complex surgery to save his leg from amputation.

This is contrary to the notion being peddled in some media quarters that the  former Vice President has absconded to the United States to escape the long arm of the Nigerian anti-graft agencies that have suddenly realised their missions.

Architect Sambo has practically disappeared from public view since his party, the Peoples Democratic Party [PDP] and principal, former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan lost the 2015 general election held on March 28.

Elombah.com, however, was privy to information which disclosed that Mr. Sambo is actually in a US hospital where he was operated on in his knee.

A source told SaharaReporters that Mr. Sambo is currently in the Washington, DC area after a surgery to repair a severe knee ligament disorder that almost resulted in the amputation of one of his legs below the knee. Before becoming Vice President to former President Goodluck Jonathan, Mr. Sambo had served as the governor of Kaduna State. 

“The former Vice President, Architect Namadi Sambo, visited or consulted several hospitals in the US before he was admitted by a DC-area hospital for an extensive ligament reconstructive surgery,” said our source, a Nigerian diplomat. He added that Mr. Sambo’s surgery took place in mid-August. He said the former vice president was in intensive rehab for several weeks after the surgery. 

“He was not able to walk for some weeks due to the nature of the surgery,” our source said.

Architect Sambo has reportedly been receiving host of visitors and well-wishers from Nigeria which includes the immediate former governor of Kaduna State, Mukhtar Ramalan Yero.

Mr. Sambo remains in the Maryland hospital where he continues to recuperate and to undergo extensive physical therapy to help restore his ability to walk normally again.
