Enugu State Equity and Justice Forum (EEJF) press release

The zoning controversy in Enugu State and the misdirected angst of the ancient curmudgeon against Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi

The attention of the Enugu State Equity and Justice Forum (EEJF) has been drawn to a publication entitled, “Between Transformational Leader and Transactional Leaders; The Celebration of The Gift of True Leaders and the Regret of Worst Governance, Enugu State Politics in Focus” published in the mediagangnetwork on 20 September 2021 and credited to a faceless group by the name The Ancient Curmudgeon.

Ordinarily, such ill-conceived propaganda does not worth dignifying with a response but for the deliberate falsehood, outright defamation of the character of the God-sent Governor of Enugu State, and most importantly the calculated design to instigate discord among the zones, we deem it necessary to rebut the publication.

Let us begin by asking who are these curmudgeons? Curmudgeon means a bad-tempered, old person. It is therefore not surprising the jaundiced, vapid, bland content spewed out by the faceless bad-tempered, ill-mannered group alleging themselves to be speaking for the Concerned Citizens of Enugu State. They actually spoke for themselves and none else.

If we may ask why did they need to excoriate the Governor in order to exhort Senator Ike Ekweremadu? Is it not deliberate mischief for them to resort to mudslinging as their selling point? Why all the lies against the Governor who is working hard, and is still working tirelessly day and night to put Enugu State on the world map. The Governor’s achievements are eland even for the blind to behold.

Judging from the content of the publication, it is obvious that the authors are social misfits, attention seekers and political hang-ons trying to impress their benefactors otherwise what is the connection between Governor Ugwuanyi and the person who will succeed him in 2023.

In their hypocrisy, the authors interrogated the sense in talking about zoning but also in contradiction played up the zoning card arguing that it is the turn of the Greater Awgu zone to produce the next Governor of Enugu State in 2023. So, they failed the test they set for themselves.

The group’s assertion of deterioration of infrastructure is not only fallacious but unfortunate. The group’s statement is anything but factual and objective. However, as it is said facts don’t lie.

The achievements of Governor Ugwuanyi in the core areas of constitutionally prescribed mandate of government- security and welfare of citizens have received commendations from all corners of Nigeria, from the high and low, from the young and old.

Not only has the Governor won awards and accolades as the most security-oriented Governor in Nigeria but has also elevated Enugu State to an enviable position as one of the most resilient states in Nigeria.

Do we need to remind the rabble-rousers of the massive road infrastructure, legacy projects, huge Investments in education, health and justice sector?

It is obvious that the authors are stark illiterates; if they are not, they would have known that the decision of who will be the next Governor lies with the voters and no one else. So, why the goose bumps all over their body?

Enugu State Equity and Justice Forum (EEJF) declares without equivocation and vacillation that zoning in Enugu State has come to stay and the realization of this fact is the beginning of political wisdom.

Following the already established rotation, it is the turn of Enugu East Senatorial District to produce the next Governor of Enugu State in 2023.

Whoever that is planning to thwart or distort the already existing zoning and rotation among the three senatorial zones may only win applause as a daydreamer. Whoever that might be should be prepared to lick his political wounds and face political ostracization.
