Emefiele V Uboh: Drama as Police wrongly accuse Uboh of recording in court

There was a mild drama at the Federal Territory High Court sitting in Maitama, Abuja, on Thursday when the police prosecutor fallaciously accused prominent whistleblower, Dr. George Uboh, of recording court proceedings with a special device.

Dr. Uboh, it could be recalled, was arraigned in the case of IGP V. Uboh, his allegation that over $2.5 billion  was missing under the watch of the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria [CBN], Dr. Godwin Emefiele.

When the case came up for hearing today, February 27, for continuation of trial, the police prosecutor Simon Lough asked for adjournment.

The sought adjournment was premised on the ground that the police witness had diarrhea and fever and it was granted by the judge.

However, instead of leaving, Lough started lamenting about the reportage of the case in the media.

He then suddenly accused George Uboh of using a device to tape record the proceeding which he surreptitiously leaked to the media.

Responding on impulse, Mr. Uboh shouted “I beg your pardon”, then opened the purported recording device.

The device turned out to be a casing for his eyeglasses, which he then displayed for the Judge and everyone in the courtroom to see.

A browbeaten Lough then apologized to Uboh and the court and after a lengthy academic talk on the right of the press to report court proceedings by Justice Halilu Halilu, the judge adjourned the case to March 24, 2020.

Meanwhile, ElombahNews gathered that CBN has refused to bring more witness to testify against Uboh, the chairman of the George Uboh Whistleblowers Network [GUWN] for fear of contradiction owing to the scandal that ensued from the last proceeding.

ElombahNews had, on January 28, reported that a Prosecution Witness, Mr. Edward Lametek Adamu, who is also the CBN Deputy Governor, exposed himself to ridicule.

During cross-examination, he had revealed that he is an engineer and could not defend his employment as a banker in the institution.

Mr. Adamu made the blunder when he appeared on the dock as a prosecution witness.
