Elombah Brothers Charged For Cybercrime and Championing Biafra Terrorism
Messrs Daniel and Tim Elombah, Publishers of Elombah News, formerly known as Elombah.com, have been charged by the Nigerian Police for Cybercrime and for “championing Biafra terrorism”.
Daniel and Tim will be arraigned tomorrow, Wednesday, at the Federal High Court, Abuja.
It could be recalled that heavily-armed men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad [SARS] numbering about 15 [fifteen] stormed the family compound of the Elombahs in Edoji-Uruagu, Nnewi in Anambra State on January 1, 2018.
Consequently, 6 [six] male members of the family were whisked away to Nnewi Police Station and thereafter to Awkuzu SARS headquarters near Awka, the state capital.
Therefrom, 3 [three] of the Elombahs, Daniel, Tim and Izu were transported to Abuja while the other 3 were released.
According to the police, the Elombahs were arrested over a publication by one Ebiowei Dickson which was published on a website www.opinionnigeria.com titled “IGP Ibrahim Idris’s Unending Baggage Of Controversies“.
It was claimed that the Inspector General of Police [IGP], Ibrahim Idris Kpotum found the said article defamatory and ordered the arrest of the Elombah brothers.
It must be noted, though, that the Tim Elombah, the Administrator of Elombah.com, now known as ElombahNews, did not publish the said article and has since disclaimed the publication.
In a related development, the Nigerian Police is denying the arrest of 5 out of the six Elombah brothers on January 1.
Police declared this in an affidavit sworn to by the Investigating Police Officer [IPO], Emmanuel Onyenacho at the Federal Capital Territory [FCT] High Court, Abuja, on February 18, 2018.
