A tragic event has reportedly taken place at Ero Dam in Ekiti State, resulting in the deaths of two Ekiti State University (EKSU) undergraduates.
The deceased, Oluwatobiloba Osho and Oladimeji Victor, were both enrolled in the Department of Theatre Arts.
Witnesses stated that the students had gone with their supervisor and peers to Igogo Ekiti for a research project and rehearsal.
After completing their work, they allegedly lingered and decided to visit the Ero Dam in Ikun Ekiti for sightseeing.
Their unexpected absence prompted a search and rescue operation involving local fishermen and police.
Authorities have not officially determined the cause of death. However, community members believe the students may have drowned in the dam.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Sunday Abutu, confirmed the students’ disappearance.
He noted that the police had not verified if drowning was the cause.
Abutu reassured the public that a dedicated search and rescue team, including fishermen, was actively seeking the missing individuals.
The EKSU community is currently grieving, and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident is underway.
