The Ekiti State Government has launched its 2025 Vocational Training Program for Persons with Disabilities to empower participants through skill development.
Starting on April 3, 2025, the initiative will train 120 individuals, promoting social inclusion and economic independence.
Mrs. Adetoun Agboola, Special Adviser on Special Education, emphasized the program’s role in advancing opportunities for PWDs.
Speaking at a press conference in Ado-Ekiti, she clarified how the program supports Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s Shared Prosperity agenda.
Furthermore, she emphasized that the initiative guarantees equal participation in economic development for all citizens, including those with disabilities.
The twelve-month training program will integrate theoretical lessons with practical workplace exposure, ensuring comprehensive skill development.
By blending classroom learning with real–world applications, participants will gain valuable experience that enhances their employability.
This dual approach strengthens their technical abilities while preparing them for future career opportunities.
Moreover, the extended duration allows trainees to master their chosen vocations thoroughly before entering the workforce.
The structured curriculum ensures participants develop both technical expertise and professional confidence.
Hands-on training reinforces classroom concepts while building workplace adaptability.
Consequently, graduates will emerge as skilled professionals ready to contribute meaningfully to Ekiti State’s economy.
The program’s design reflects a thoughtful balance between education and practical experience.
Participants from all 16 LGAs and 38 LCDAs will receive practical training in ICT, tailoring, hairdressing, and other fields.
The State Skills Acquisition Centre in Ilokun will provide modern facilities and expert instructors.
Additionally, accommodations will be available for trainees from outside Ado-Ekiti, ensuring accessibility.
Mrs. Agboola reiterated that the program focuses on self-sufficiency, not just skill acquisition. She expressed confidence that it would improve beneficiaries’ livelihoods and societal contributions.
