Diversion of N17b: EFCC detains dismissed NSIPA CEO, Halima Shehu
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has arrested and detained Halima Shehu, the suspended National Coordinator and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA).
NewsBand reported on Tuesday that President Bola Tinubu suspended Halima from NSIPA which is responsible for managing critical programs like N-Power and Conditional Cash Transfer, after it came under scrutiny in recent times, with concerns raised about efficiency and effectiveness.
Though, Halima was taken into custody by the anti-graft agency following her alleged involvement in the movement of N17 billion from NSIPA account to some suspicious accounts within one week.
The interception and recovery of the money followed some alleged payments of billions of naira by the agency without presidential approval, the Nation reported.
It was learnt that the EFCC might have recommended Halima Shehu’s suspension to President Bola Tinubu.
Her suspension, based on preliminary investigation, was to make way for a holistic probe of the illegality.
Officers of EFCC, who were drafted to the National Coordinator’s private office and home, arrested her at about 8pm on Tuesday.
After searching her home and office, she was taken into custody at about 9pm for questioning.
It was also learnt that the EFCC was closing in on a director of the agency, who was allegedly complicit in the huge payments into the suspicious accounts.
