The Permanent Secretary, Directorate of Government House and Protocol, Mr. Eddy Ogidi-Gbebaje has advised workers to undertake regular routine medical check-up in order to stay healthy and be productive.

The Permanent Secretary who was speaking yesterday [21-10-15] during an health seminar organized by the Directorate for its staff in Asaba said that most workers take their health for granted and do not go for medical check-up until they fall sick.

According to him “We take our health for granted and ignore the warning signs our body gives us. It is important to go for thorough medical check-up especially when you are up to 40 years and take preventive measures, it helps to maintain a healthy living and will make you live long and be productive as a worker.”

” As workers we should not neglect our health because once we fall sick and break down we might not be as strong as usual to do the work, when we recover from such ailment (an example is stroke), it is important we take our health serious, rest well so that we will be more healthy and productive”, he added.

The Resource Person from Alpha Plus Resources, Miss Victoria Anene, who delivered a lecture on “Quality Health Maintenance and Sustenance” explained that diet and obesity were the major causes of many diseases in the world.

She said that a person can be obese when his/her body mass index (BMI)  was above 30 and that obesity can be caused by energy in balance, age, sedentary life style and lack of physical activity adding that it can be prevented by regular medical check-up.

Miss Anene highlighted the diseases associated with obesity to include, hypertension, coronary heart disease, cancer, respiratory problems and stroke among others stressing that the regular intake of food rich in fruits and vegetables would help maintain a healthy life style.
