The publisher of IkedojiBestPointNews, Sir Augustine Ike [Ikedoji] has raised suspicion over the reported COVID-19 Index Case in Anambra State following the trending controversy generated by the case.

The Chief Willied Obiano-led Anambra State Government had, on Friday, April 10, paraded a resident of the state, popularly known as Ochendo, as the first to contract the dreaded disease in the state.

As a matter of fact, the state government confirmed his discharge in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr. C. Don Adinuba and made availavle to ElombahNews.

Mr. Adinuba said that the patient was discharged on Thursday after a second test conducted just five days after by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) confirmed that the index case has tested negative to the virus.

He said: “At about 8pm on Good Friday, April 10, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) announced that Anambra State, despite the inspiring efforts of the state administration to shield the people from the ravaging coronavirus pandemic, had finally been infected.

“Just five days later, new specimens from the index case read negative for COVID-19.

“Consequently, Governor Willie Obiano on Wednesday, April 22, directed the Commissioner for Health to release the 58-year old man from the protection centre at the General Hospital, Onitsha, Nigeria’s first facility to meet the World Health Organisation (WHO) standards in the management of COVID-19 cases.”

Singing the praises of the state in the management of the case, he said:

“The management of Anambra’s index case has turned out to be one of the shortest anywhere in the world. Kudos to the team which handled the case. The team is good, very good.”

However, in a twist of events, the man purported to be infected with COVID-19 debunked the claims that he was infected by the deadly disease, saying he only suffered a bout of Malaria.

He said he was surprised when he got to the hospital and the Malaria was baptised as COVID-19.

Speaking to neighbours and friends who thronged out to welcome him as he returned home amidst Jubilation and fanfare, he discharged any claims that he had coronavirus in his system.

Consequently, Sir Augustine Ike, who said that he “perceived that another Anambrarian is about to be cajoled by… the Honourable Commissioner for Information Anambra State”, wrote a letter to  NDDC asking for clarification.

He cited a previous incident where he accused Adinuba of attempting to use his office and destroy the image of a seating Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Sen. Dr. Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah.

Amidst the raging controversies, he asked NCDC “to find out the true story of the Anambra State Index Case.

According to him, “going by the principle of identify and non contradiction it cannot be that the man has COVID-19 and not have COVID-19 at the same time.

“Thus, the burden of proof lies with the NCDC to tell us the true position as the matter is verifiable.”
