Court to hear suit on rotational presidency 27 January

The Federal High Court 4, Abuja will tomorrow hear definitely the suit on rotational presidency instituted by the Igbo Leadership Development Foundation (ILDF) November, 2021 for commencement of hearing on the suit filed by the Igbo Leadership Development Foundation.

The suit is against the Federal Character Commission, INEC and the 18 registered political parties in the country. Among other reliefs, the suit seeks a declaration that based on the Federal Character of Nigeria, the South East geopolitical zone is entitled to the exclusion of any other Zone in Nigeria to produce the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 2023; an order restraining INEC from accepting nominations of persons who are not indigenes of South East geopolitical zone from the 18 registered political parties or any registered political party for the 2023 Presidential Election.

Speaking to journalist ahead of the scheduled hearing tomorrow, Counsel to ILDF, Chief John Nwobodo expressed the preparedness of the legal team of the Plaintiffs. He stated that none of the defendants filed a defence to the suit except the All Progressive Congress (APC) thus all things being equal, the case will be a walk over.

The National Chairman of ILDF, Dr. Godwin Udibe expressed the hope that the Igbo Presidency suit will be a reality stating his belief that the suit will be determined in favour of ILDF. He decried the marginalization of the South East and states that this suit will bring to an end the political marginalization of Ndigbo.
