COPDEM empowers media officers with cutting-edge skills — By Nnenyere Ezinne
The adage which says, “two heads are better than one”, aptly captures the synergy between the Coalition for the Protection of Democracy (COPDEM) and Diaspora Digital Media (DDM). This partnership recently culminated in the ongoing transformative two-week media programme in Awka, the capital of Anambra State.
The programme is designed to empower participants with cutting-edge skills in digital media, content creation, and analysis.
The capacity building workshop has provided a rare opportunity for participants to network with individuals from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds across Nigeria, including the Yoruba, Hausa, Igbo, and Orin ethnic groups.
One of the programme’s highlights is the opportunity to engage with industry veterans and experts.
Professionals such as Tim Elombah, Tony Eluemunor, Nicholas Eweruonye and Software Engineer, Joseph Mmadubuike, are among the distinguished facilitators. Their wealth of knowledge and years of experience is providing an invaluable insights, equipping participants with practical skills in digital media, journalism, and democratic advocacy.
Moreover, the hospitality extended to participants is nothing short of exceptional. The organizers ensured that everyone is well accommodated, offering comfortable accommodation, sumptuous meals, and a conducive learning environment. This thoughtful arrangement allowed participants to focus entirely on their training and personal development.
What stood out most in the programme is the emphasis on freedom of expression. Participants have been encouraged to voice their opinions, share their ideas, and engage in meaningful dialogue. Every question posed was met with thoughtful, detailed responses. This fosters an atmosphere of intellectual curiosity and active participation.
However, each participant was issued an identification card, symbolizing their membership in the capacity building workshop. As the programme progresses, I am eager to acquire more knowledge and skills, which I intend to share with the broader community. It is a true honor to be part of this initiative, and I look forward to contributing to the growth and success of both COPDEM and DDM in the weeks to come.
