Pandemonium broke out in Ado-Ekiti on Friday after a policeman shot a former member of House of Representatives, Opeyemi Michael Bamidele at the All Progressives Congress (APC) Secretariat on Ajilosun area of Ado Ekiti.

An irate mob had descended on the shooter and beaten him to pulp in his own pool of blood.

ElombahNews was informed that the policeman was either dead or abandoned to die.

The scenario was first misunderstood as a deliberate shooting but was later claimed to be an alleged mishandling of firearms by a yet-to-be identified mobile policeman.

He was said to be “over protecting” some VIPs shortly after the end of the rally as sporadic gun fire were heard in the venue.

The shots led many to scamper for safety as the gunshots strayed in different directions, mostly towards the ground.

Even a Taxi Driver, who inside his taxi, was shot by the policemen brought by Fayemi to Ekiti when teargas fired at Ojumose hit him.

It was in that process that Bamidele, one of the APC aspirants, was hit in his arm, while some yet to be identified person, were also hit.

The mobile policeman, who allegedly mishandled his gun, was then mobbed by the crowd.

Eyewitnesses said that mobile policeman, in his effort to protect the VIPs, was using his gun to push away the crowd.

Members of the crowd, however, got annoyed and dragged the gun with him and at that point  he shot sporadically in the air, to scare them away.

Also, he was said to have been behaving funny earlier in the day, leading to some of his colleagues urging him to surrender his weapon.

Some had even suggested that he was probably drunk.

Meanwhile, the yet to be identified mobile policeman was terribly beaten by the angry, and is feared dead.

Another version of the same story, however, said that he was an assassin sent to kill the former aspirant.

On his part, Mr. Lere Olayinka, the Special Assistant To Governor Ayodele Fayose on Media, blamed APC and alleged a coverup.

He said:

“Fayemi’s men may attempt to assassinate the Policeman who fired shots at Micheal Opeyemi Bamidele (MOB) and two others at APC rally in Ado Ekiti today to justify their claim that he’s a fake policeman.

“The policeman must not die. He must tell Nigerians who brought him to Ekiti and why he attempted to kill MOB.”
