An alleged international passport of Nigeria’s president-elect, Mr Bola Ahmed Tinubu, purportedly issued by the Guinea Conakry government, has gone viral on Twitter.

Guinea Conakry is a country located on the West coast of Africa, between Guinea Bissau and Sierra Leone.

The pictures of Bola Tinubu Guinea Conakry passport were shared on Twitter, on Saturday night, April 15, 2023, by the Nigerian fiery investigative journalist, David Hundeyin.

While sharing the photos on Twitter, Hundeyin captioned it, “Surprise“.

In a follow-up tweet, he wrote, “On Tinubu’s INEC EC9 declaration, he stated that he has not obtained any other citizenship.

“But he has Guinean citizenship, with his Guinean passport stating clearly that he was born in Nigeria – which means he obtained Guinean citizenship. This is perjury. Lying under oath,” he added.

Though, News Band could not independently verify the originality of the now expired Bola Tinubu Guinea passport but the Nigerian law states that “Nationals of origin in Nigeria or another country are allowed to naturalize without renouncing other nationality.

But members of the government, like the president, governor, or state and national legislators according to Nigeria’s constitution cannot have dual citizenship. Having dual citizenship automatically disqualifies the individual from seeking any elective post.

Meanwhile, this new development if verified to be true, could possibly lead to Bola Tinubu’s immediate disqualification by the court.

In February 2023, the Independent National Electoral Commission in a very controversial circumstance declared Bola Tinubu as the president-elect.

Tinubu was declared the winner of the presidential election after he polled 8,794,726, almost two million votes more than his closest rival, Atiku.

Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party candidate got 6,984,520 votes while Peter Obi of the Labour Party secured 6,101,533.

The duo had rejected the outcome of the poll, adding that the entire process was flawed. They have also gone to court to challenged it.

They faulted the electoral umpire for not uploading election results from polling units electronically to the commission’s Results Viewing Portal (IReV), as stipulated by Section 60 of the Electoral Act 2022.

However, there is calm in the camp of the All Progressives Congress after the disturbing revelation made by David Hundeyin.

The spokespersons of the ruling party are yet to react to the development.
