The Lower Niger Congress notes with grim convert, that President Buhari equated the Boko Haram mindless bloodletting with the resource control agitation of the Niger-Delta and the self-determination agitation of eastern Nigeria.

The incoherence and gaps in thought or understanding were not unexpected. The shallowness and hollowness of argument are almost now a trademark of both the party and their standard bearer, who also doubles as our president.

Hard to tell where mediocrity stops and where mischief starts. The shame and embarrassment of it all, especially the international dimension, we are almost accustomed to, since some big players in the international also circuit had a hand in how he was imposed on us.

As for the economy already bleeding profusely from polity machete-cuts, even the blind can now see what put JP Morgan and virgin Atlantic to flight from the bounty-laden, killing-fields of Africa tagged Nigeria, awash with sweet crude, now going sour. Welcome back to 1984!

What can the rest of us, entrapped by geography into the Lugardian construct now caliphate prison, we call Nigeria do, except we dismantle its restraining walls?

We were already warned by the vendors of change to brace up for a turbulent economic flight in 2016. If only the pilots were not the notorious bolekaja drivers we knew all these years, we would have put our faith to work.

The worst part of the whole macabre circus came when discourse shifted to the Biafra question and the grave constitutional grievances of eastern Nigeria.

All hell was let loose as the same man who a few minutes before did not seem to know or remember the difference between tiers of government and arms of government, flared up to recite the intricate details of the Nnamdi Kanu saga, ridiculing both the judges, the courts and the so-called rule of law.

Like a bull that saw a red flag, he charged at the thoroughly frightened interviewer who, point-blank, dared to put him on the spot in that very combustible matter called Biafra. Almost barking in his challenge to the interviewer to furnish particulars of the famed marginalization of the Igbo.

The poor follow could only blurt out a few words about the composition of Buhari’s kitchen cabinet to which the president retorted a response listing the juicy portfolios of central bank governorship and petroleum ministry under-secretary and asking whether he should drop his guns to please the Igbo!

In missing the golden opportunity to loudly proclaim to the face of President Muhammadu Buhari and the primetime global audience, the consciously suppressed, long-outstanding, grave constitutional grievances of eastern Nigeria which drive the “Biafra” pursuit, almost ceaselessly since after Aburi, is most lamentable.

What a dramatic change of narrative it would have been if the answer zeroed in on those constitutional grievances instead of the vacuous whining about juicy appointments, made popular by moronic self-seeking, Nigerian-made politicians of the east. The lnc blames that journalist.

The pervading, system-imposed mediocrity has robbed that interviewer of what would have been his finest journalistic moment and consequential break.

The Lower Niger Congress notes with grim convert, that President Buhari equated the Boko Haram mindless bloodletting with the resource control agitation of the Niger-Delta and the self-determination agitation of eastern Nigeria. (All within the Lower Niger)

The ominous implication here is that Buhari, who was a participant in every step that imposed a toxic Nigeria by bloody force and violence on eastern Nigeria since 1966, now feigns ignorance of what the issues are and has by categorizing the so-called militancy of the Niger-Delta and the “Biafra protests” together with Boko Haram, more or less told the whole world upfront that the Lower Niger legitimate constitutional grievances and demands will be criminalized and ruthlessly crushed by his government. It will be recalled that the same Buhari, a few months ago in far-away south Africa , as president of Nigeria, referred to the Biafra agitation as madness

In being quick to enumerate the CBN governor and the petroleum ministry junior minister, both from delta state in the so-called south South, as Igbo, Buhari his corroborated Junaid Mohammed’s boast that the south south was a creation of the north to bifurcate, debilitate and completely disorganise eastern Nigeria politically.

We recall how, in the heat of the Ihejirika-led army’s engagement with Boko Haram, the letter by Murtala Nyako, as governor of Adamawa State to his fellow governors of the north (19), against then President Goodluck Jonathan, described Jonathan as an element of eastern Nigeria who had come to avenge the massacre of his people by the north in the 1966-1970 genocide!. The rest, particularly the 2015 elections, as they say is history.

For the avoidance of doubt, the Lower Niger Congress wishes to restate the constitutional grievances of eastern Nigeria which was articulated under the title “country-wide rejection of the 1999 constitution” posted both in the Lower Niger Congress website www.lnc-usa.org and on the facebook page of Lower Niger Congress.

The actions being pursued to extricate the territory from the enslavement Nigeria has become, are outlined in the proclamation by the solemn assembly of the peoples of the Lower Niger in Port Harcourt 27th April 2015 which resolved to go to a referendum to decide its political future in Nigeria, just like the scots did recently.

The aforementioned proclamation, which adopted the 1885-1906 map of the Lower Niger as the geographical description of the territory seeking the referendum, is on the same lnc website and on YouTube by the same title. Newspaper advertorials were taken out in that period to put the proclamation, unedited, in the public domain (see page 28 of the guardian newspaper of April 26th, 2015 and page 37 of vanguard newspaper of May 5th 2015).

The Lower Niger territory shown in the aforementioned map is the same as the present day so-called south east and south south minus the portions of Igboland carved by Nigeria into Benue and Kogi States, which may by plebiscite opt to join the proposed Lower Niger federation.

Same instrument of plebiscite is available to those who, falling within the said 1885-1906 map, wish to opt out of the prospective Lower Niger federation.

The Lower Niger Congress states unequivocally that Nigeria, as defined by the current constitutional order is completely unacceptable to the peoples of the Lower Niger who, having exhausted all legitimate avenues for dialogue since after Aburi in 1967, now opts to exercise the right to self-determination in self-redemption from the failed, unworkable union of Nigeria by referendum within the united nations declaration on the rights of indigenous peoples 2007, since our born-to-rule conquerors had for 50 years insisted that the terms of the Nigerian union was non-negotiable, even after a formal suit was instituted on the issue in 2007. No answer has been offered by the proprietors of Nigeria, to date.

Those who kill, maim, jail and destroy in the name of containing the “Biafra agitation” should be prepared to take full responsibility for their actions in this simple matter of self-determination now being criminalized by the rulers of Nigeria.

Again, for the avoidance of doubt, the Lower Niger Congress asserts that “Biafra” is simply a euphemism for self-determination, freedom and independence by the traumatized peoples of the Lower Niger. Call it Biafra, call it greater Biafra, call it treason, call it felony. That is your own description.

Concerned international institutions and stakeholders are hereby put on notice that Nigeria is now a disputed project and that all transactions and undertakings must henceforth, take this reality into account.

Dated this 31st day of December, 2015

Issued by the secretariat of the Lower Niger Congress under the hand of the secretary-general
