Buhari inaugurates Lafia cargo airport, power substation

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday inaugurated the Lafia Cargo Airport in Kwandere in Lafia Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

Buhari, whose chopper, Nigeria Air Force Number 5N FG 2, landed at the airport by 10:47am said he was happy to inaugurate some projects in the state.

The president was received by Governor Abdullahi Sule; his predecessor, Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, and another former governor of the state, Senator Abdullahi Adamu.

Also at the airport were governors Yahaya Bello (Kogi) and Abubakar Atiku Bagudu (Kebbi); Senator Godiya Akwashiki, Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State represented by his deputy, Benson Abounu, and the Minister of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, George Akume, among others.

Speaking shortly after the inauguration of the airport, governor Sule said the project, started by his predecessor, had a lot of facilities.

The president later inaugurated the 330/132/33KV sub-station at Akurba, the Central Bank of Nigeria office and Sabo Bus Terminal among other projects in Lafia.

In an interview with journalists, the Minister of Power, Abubakar Aliyu, said the project was one of the legacy projects of the president in the state.

While outlining some of its benefits to include rapid growth in socio-economic activities, the minister said the project would go a long way in wooing more foreign investors which would create job opportunities in the state.
