The Bauchi State Emirate Council has withdrawn the traditional title of “Mujaddadin Bauchi” conferred on Senator Shehu Buba Umar.

This was disclosed in a letter dated August 14, 2024, and signed by the Bauchi Emirate Council, under the leadership of the current Emir of Bauchi, Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu.

The genesis

The decision followed the recent criticism of the state governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, by Senator Buba Umar.

Governor Mohammed had, during a recent local government election campaign flag-off by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), lambasted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Mohammed pointed out several flaws in President Tinubu’s economic policies.

He emphasized that such policies have had negative impact on the citizenry and the nation at large.

He noted that these policies, rather than uplift the masses, have exacerbated the already dire economic conditions.

According to him, those policies have left many families struggling to afford even the most basic necessities.

Senator Buba Umar kicks

Senator Umar, in response, lashed out against Mohammed, accusing him of poor style of governance.

He, however, not only courted the anger of the governor, but also that of the State Emirate Council.

In the letter dated August 14, the Bauchi Emirate Council, led by the Emir of Bauchi, announced the withdrawal of the traditional title of “Mujaddadin Bauchi” from the embattled senator.

Buba Umar, meanwhile, represents Bauchi South Senatorial District at the National Assembly.

The Council cited Senator Umar’s failure to adhere to the customs and traditions of the Bauchi Emirate as the reason for the decision.

The letter highlighted the incident involving the Senator and the Governor of Bauchi State.

This, it stressed, was deemed contrary to the principles of respect and discipline upheld by the Emirate.

“The decision was made after a thorough review and deliberation by the Emirate Council, with the withdrawal of the title being effective immediately,” the letter stated.
