A Russian court has sentenced a United States citizen, Britney Griner, nine years in prison for criminal possession of drugs.
Griner, six foot, nine inches female basketballer, was found guilty of criminally importing canabis, a banned narcotic substance, to Russia.
The two-time lesbian Olympics champion will serve her sentence in a female colony in Russia.
In the meantime, the President Joe Biden administration is working towards a prisoner’s swap with a Russian arms dealer for Griner.
