The Rivers State House of Assembly has formally withdrawn impeachment notice against governor Siminalayi Fubara.
In the notice of withdrawal read on the house floor during plenary on Wednesday, the lawmakers loyal to the former governor of the State, Barrister Nysom Wike said the decision was made out of respect for President Bola Tinubu.
Recall that the political landscape in Rivers State had been characterized by tension, primarily attributed to a power struggle between governor Fubara and Wike, who is the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
In a series of events in the last two months, parallel sittings emerged, an impeachment move against the governor was plotted, the Assembly complex was attacked, and a wave of resignations swept through the cabinet of Fubara.
