BREAKING: Nigeria businessman dies in Ivory Coast while watching Nigeria-S’Africa semi-final cracker

A Nigerian businessman identified as High Chief Osondu Nwoye lost his life while watching the highly electrified semi-final clash between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and Bafana Bafana of South Africa on Wednesday in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nation tournament in Ivory Coast.

NewsBand reliably gathered that the richest Igbo man in Ivory Coast collapsed and died in the Stadium when Victor Osimhen’s goal was cancelled by the referee.

Though, the Nigeria High Commission in Ivory Coast is yet to issue any official statement in respect to the unfortunate development.

Meanwhile, Chief Osondu has become the 4th Nigerian that died while cheering the Super Eagles in their semi-final clash against South Africa.

Earlier today, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Delta State, Dr Cairo Ojougboh also lost his life.

A source said “As soon as a penalty kick was awarded against Nigeria during the AFCON match with South Africa on Wednesday’s semi-final clash in Bouake, Ivory Coast, he slumped”.

Also, Alhaji Ayuba Abdullahi, the Deputy Bursar of Kwara State University Malete, lost his life.

Mr Abdullahi went to a viewing centre in the Sango area to watch the game before he started feeling uneasy.

A source speaking on the unfortunate incident said, “The Deputy Bursar watched the Nigeria/South Africa match from the beginning till the end of the extra time, till it was time for a penalty kick.

“He complained that he was feeling dizzy, so he said he needed to go back home and rest not knowing that his BP had gone up.

“On getting home, he collapsed and was rushed to a private hospital in Sango and he was referred to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital and before he could be attended to, he died.

“He was buried on Thursday morning according to Islamic rites.”

There is also the case of a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) serving in Adamawa State.

The Corps member simply identified as Samuel from Kaduna passed out during penalty shootout just before the final kick that secured Nigeria’s victory in the game.

“We lost one Nigerian during our victory celebration over South Africa at our sports viewing centre here in Numan.

“The corps member who is serving in Numan from Kaduna State fainted before the kick of the winning goal.

“He died before they could reach the hospital in Numan. May his soul rest in peace.”, the Nation reported.
