Gunmen suspected to be members of the notorious Autopilot, a break away faction of the Indigenous People Of Biafra, were resisted in a botched attack launched in one of the police formations in Anambra State.
The gunmen according to reports, arrived the Ayamelum divisional police station Anaku, in the wee hours of Wednesday but were resisted by the gallant men of the force.
The fierce resistance and return of fire forced the criminal elements to scamper for safety.
While running because of the fire power of security operatives, the cowards threw some of the improvised explosive device they came with into the operational vehicles and other cars in the premises making them go up in flames.
About three vehicles were completely destroyed as a result of the fire but the building wasn’t affected.
When contacted, the command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu said it was a “failed attack as our men foiled the invasion.”
“The attack was successfully repelled by our officers. We didn’t record any casualties and our arms are intact and our men are in high spirit.
“As I speak to you now, operations are still ongoing in the area to arrest the hoodlums,” Ikenga said.
