Brazil turns to Russia for Nuclear Submarine development
Jair Bolsonaro asked his Russian counterpart for assistance in developing its first nuclear-powered submarine during his visit to Moscow last month.
Bolsonaro’s government had been talking to the US about certifying nuclear reactor fuel and “engineering issues”, but talks fell apart four years ago.
Russian state nuclear energy agency Rosatom already has deals in place to fuel Brazil’s only nuclear power plant, although the prospective deal for a sub was uncertain due to the situation in Ukraine.
