On Thursday, PDP Governors’ Forum Chairman Bala Mohammed emphatically declared his readiness to collaborate with Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi, pledging open dialogue and joint efforts to address national challenges.

The announcement followed weeks of public speculation, signaling a potential alliance to unify opposition voices ahead of future elections.

Emphasizing unity, he stated his intent to foster cross-party cooperation during a public address.

The announcement was made during a consultation visit by Obi to the Bauchi State presidential lodge on Thursday.

Governor Mohammed emphasized that a collaboration with Obi could pave the way for improved governance in Nigeria.

Mohammed highlighted the meeting as a crucial chance to address poverty and criminality, emphasizing collaboration. He recognized Obi as Nigeria’s current opposition leader, stressing unity.

Detailing their dialogue, he noted, “We tackled state-specific challenges,” adding, “I deeply value Obi’s leadership despite political divides.” Transitioning to cooperation, the Bauchi governor affirmed bipartisan efforts to resolve national crises.

Addressing skeptics, he declared, “I’ll collaborate with Obi transparently.” Pledging action, he vowed, “We’ll unite, close ranks, and deliver governance rooted in vision — rescuing Nigeria through informed, timely opposition.”

Mohammed added that this collaboration transcends political affiliations, regional divides, and religious differences. He noted that other PDP governors are supportive of this initiative, which he described as “a transcendental journey.”

Peter Obi, on his part, highlighted the significance of addressing Nigeria’s pressing challenges, particularly in the northern region. Speaking during the visit, Obi said, “We have to discuss issues happening in the North. I have told the governor today that the North is a critical component if we are going to get it right in this country.”

Obi stressed the need to tackle poverty as a prerequisite for addressing criminality. “There is poverty in Nigeria. We have to deal with the issue of poverty, and until you solve poverty, then you can talk about criminality,” he explained.

Meanwhile, the Labour Party candidate urged investing in essential sectors to lift citizens from poverty, reducing crime and fostering safer societies.

This meeting aligns with efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s opposition parties, holding the government accountable and driving meaningful change.

Notably, Obi had resigned from the PDP in 2022, citing developments within the party that hindered constructive contributions.

As both leaders signal their readiness to collaborate, their partnership could mark a significant step toward addressing Nigeria’s socio-economic challenges and fostering a more unified opposition bloc.
