Attempted Coup: How Yoruba Nation agitators on military fatigue invaded Oyo gov’s office

There was palpable tension in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, on Saturday when masked men in military fatigue suspected to be members of the Yoruba Nation attempted to seize control of the State Government Secretariat, Governor’s Office, and House of Assembly complex.

A security source said that the stern looking masked men stormed the government facilities and positioned themselves at strategic locations, in an attempt to hoist their own flags.

“The masked men invaded the government facility to hoist the flag of Yoruba Nation

“Their presence caused panic in the Mokola area where the House of Assembly and secretariat are located”, a security source said.

Following the heightened tension, local businesses quickly closed down out of fear of possible attacks.

This medium gathered that the security operatives on duty at the secretariat were dismayed as they were unable to disperse the agitators until the arrival of police operatives from the state command and other anti-crime agencies in collaboration with members of the Nigerian Army, 2 Division, who immediately demobilised the raging agitators.

In a viral video sighted by NewsBand showed moment armed police officers were arresting some of the masked agitators.

At the time of filing this report, there has been no official statement from the Oyo State government and police regarding the attempted coup.

Meanwhile, the leader of the Yoruba separatist movement, Chief Sunday Adeyemo aka, Sunday Igboho has distanced himself from the invasion.

Igboho said he did not have a hand in the invasion. He charged the Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde to carry out proper investigation in order to smoke out the people behind the attack and their sponsors.

He further urged the governor to ascertain the motive behind the invasion, while adding that the people behind it should be unveiled, arrested and prosecuted.

Igboho further reiterated his commitment to the peace and security of the Yorubaland, noting that he would never be part of anything whatsoever that could disturb the peace of the region.
