At least 32 people have been killed, while about 53 were wounded when an explosion hit a Shiite mosque in the Afghan city of Kandahar on Friday, according to a report by AFP.

“Thirty-two bodies and 53 wounded people have been brought to our hospital so far,” a medic in the southern city’s central hospital said.

The blast in a Shiite mosque in PD1 of Kandahar City left behind a litter of dead bodies and many more injured.

The blast occurred during Jummah prayer and still it’s not clear whether it was suicide attack or bomb blast.

The cause of the blasts, which was not immediately identified, came exactly a week after a suicide bomb attack on Shiite worshippers in the northern city of Kunduz, that was claimed by the Islamic State group.

An eyewitness told AFP he heard three explosions, one at the main door of the mosque, another at a southern area, and a third where worshippers wash themselves.
