Appeal court affirms Tony Nwoye as Anambra North Senator
The Court of Appeal sitting in Lagos has, on Thursday, November 2, affirmed the Judgement of the Anambra State National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal which confirmed Dr. Tony Okechukwu Nwoye of the Labour Party (LP) as the Senator representing Anambra North Senatorial District at the National Assembly.
Reacting to the Judgement of the Election Petition Tribunal, Senator Tony Nwoye dedicated the “victory to all the good people of Anambra North, most especially the youths and mothers and elders in the rural area”.
Nwoye said in a terse statement published on his social media handle: “What is written is written.
“The Appellate court of the Federal Republic of Nigeria sitting in Lagos affirmed the mandate bestowed upon me by the wonderful and good people of Anambra North Senatorial District.
“The appeal court affirmed the Judgement of the National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal.
“My people, we have laboured and God has given us victory.
“The Victory belongs to all the good people of Anambra North, most especially the Youths and Our Mothers and Elders in the rural area.
“Now, let us get to work. My solemn promise is that I will not let you down.
“Long Live Labour Party.
“Long Live Anambra North Senatorial District!
“Long Live Anambra State!
“Long Live the Federal Republic of Nigeria!”
Senator Nwoye defeated his fellow contestants from other parties to emerge senator including former Anambra State First Lady, Mrs. Ebele Obiano of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Senator Stella Adaeze Oduah of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Engr Nelson Onubogu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), et al.
Meanwhile, Dr. Tony Nwoye was a former member of the Nigerian House of Representatives representing the people of Anambra East/West constituency of Anambra state.
He was a gubernatorial candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), in the 2013 Anambra State governorship election.
He will later also become a gubernatorial candidate of the APC in the 2017 Anambra State governorship election.
