Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC) has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to relieve Prof. Yakubu Mahmood of his position as the Chairman of INEC, in order to avert looming damages that could strike the country in the forthcoming 2023 general election.

Ohanaeze Youth Council, OYC, the apex socio-cultural youth organization of Ndigbo has expressed acrimony over what it termed a deliberate delay in according the due recognition to Chief Edozie Njoku, as the authentic National chairman of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Speaking amidst bitterness, on behalf of the Council, the National President, Comrd. Igboayaka O. Igboayaka, who spoke to newsmen on Friday July 22nd, 2022, at Abuja, expressed utter disappointment and dissatisfaction over the blunt refusal of INEC to issue Chief Njoku a certificate as the party’s chairman.

Igboayaka accused INEC and Chief Victor Oye of involvement in a dirty deal of robbing Njoku of his mandate, hence the Supreme Court had pronounced the latter as the party’s National Chairman pertinently, on April 6, 2022, in a subsisting Ruling delivered by Hon. Justice A.R. Mohammed of the Federal High Court Abuja Division in Suit No: FHC/BAU/CS/10/2020 in Motion No. FHC/BAU/M/41/2020 between Chief Edozie Njoku & Others Vs Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) & another; and the lead Judgment of the Supreme Court of Nigeria delivered by Hon. Justice Mary Ukaego Peter-Odili, JSC in Suit No: SC/CV/686/2021 between Jude Okeke Vs All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) & others declared Chief Edozie Njoku as the authentic National Chairman of APGA.

Comr. Igboayaka O Igboayaka who argued why INEC’s Chairman, Prof Yakubu Mahmood has remained obstinate to Court’s verdict, said: “Prof Yakubu Mahmood must explain to Nigerians why he would not to honour Supreme Court Judgement, and, therefore, must be probed immediately by EFCC.

“The attitude of Prof Yakubu Mahmood has proven him incompetent and biased to be able to handle 2023 general election.

“Therefore, we call on President Buhari to relief Prof. Yakubu Mahmood of his duty immediately to avoid more damage in INEC commission.

“With the INEC election schedule more delay to accord Chief Edozie Njoku his due recognition as national chairman of APGA may hinder 2023 general.

“It will be a slap to our democracy and rule of law if Chief Victor Oye is not arrested within 48 hours.

“Victor Oye has shown high level of criminality by his intentions to keep bribing INEC Chairman in other to defraud aspirants in AGPA.

“We, therefore, call on Inspector- General of police to deploy his men in action to arrest Chief Victor Oye and prosecute him in accordance with the law.”
